SPECIES INFORMATION :
Corals like all living creatures require energy to live, they gain their energy through the means of photosynthesis. The title of the piece Zooxanthellae are microscopic algae that live in the tissues of some corals and anemones that allow this process of photosynthesis to occur. Zooxanthellae and corals have a symbiotic relationship, the Zooxanthellae provide the coral with energy and make them look bright, colourful and healthy and in place allow them to live with the coral. Through rising water temperatures Zooxanthellae can become stressed and leave their host friend the corals resulting in the loss of colours known as coral bleaching.
IDEAS BEHIND THE ART WORK :
All the species in the drawing are from the Great Barrier Reef with several hundreds of different fish types drawn. The artwork took over 500 hours to complete and brings light to the unfortunate consequences of coral bleaching illustrated through the graphite black and white corals. The circular composition encompasses fast array of tiny forms and shapes making up the complex reef ecosystem creating a sense of movement and flow in the artwork. The large white void in the middle posing as a question of thought. What will happen to these species?

The original artwork was completed using pigment ink, fine-liner ,watercolor paint, colour pencil and graphite pencil.

Prints of sizes A4 and A3 and small sqaure come with protective packaging for postage and clear plastic cellophane wrapping with recycled card backing. Print sizes medium and large square will come rolled up in a mailing tube.
